About Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rhythmic Gymnastics is a combination of ballet, dance, acrobatics and circus moves, displaying gymnastic movements and apparatus skills. The sport improves hand-eye coordination, balance and promotes self expression and creativity.

Gymnasts perform routines on the floor mats to music using apparatus Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon.

The Two Streams

The Recreation Non Competitive classes are held on Friday evenings. There are no competitions involved. Girls learn to work with all apparatus. They have the opportunity to move to a higher level by taking part in trial upgrades and official state upgrades. In addition they perform in our Club Display Days twice a year where they join the competitive stream gymnasts in performing for families and friends. For more information, see our Come and Try information.

The Squad Competitive Stream works towards local, State and National competitions. In addition to learning their apparatus routines with our talented coaches from Russia and Ukraine, they also work with Russian Ballet/Bodywork teachers.

Mitcham has prepared gymnasts for State and National competitions with great success over many years.
